I figure it this way, if you are on the fence about getting the collector's edition then maybe my video can help you decide one way or another if that particular item is worth your hard earned cash. There have been a few I have purchased in the past and I've been so disappointed in them I've felt like my money was wasted and a couple that were such low quality I even returned them. Had videos showing them in detail been there I could have saved myself the time and money and not bought them to begin with.
That being said, I sincerely love collector's editions of games. I display them proudly and the line up for this year is looking like it is going to be pretty amazing. Here's my list of most anticipated collector's editions so far this year.

Tales of Berseria: Collector's Edition

Tales of Berseria is the sixteenth entry to the main "Tales" series of games. It was previously released in Japan in August 2016 and is set to released for the PS4 in North America on Jan. 24th/2017 and for PC Jan 27/2017 at which time it will also launch for Europe on the PS4.
The game takes place in the Holy Midgarde Empire, which is shared by the Tales of Zestiria entry in the series, though Berseria tales place in Zestiria's distant past making this a prequel of sorts.
One of the things I really like with the Tales series of collector's edition games is the continuity between each game's items. Each of the ones I have purchased (Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Zestiria) have similar chibi figures, such as the ones we see in the Tales of Berseria Collector's Edition. Even the boxes for Symphonia and Zestiria are similar in style. I also have Tales of Xillia and Tales of Xillia 2, which didn't come with Chibi figures, but the look of them is quite in line with those of the others I own so they don't look out of place when displayed near each other and they did match with each other. It shows that a certain amount of care is put into each of the collector's editions items and also into the series as a whole.

Resident Evil Biohazard will be the twenty-seventh entry of the Resident Evil series of games. It will however be the first main series game to be played in first person view. It is to be made available across several platforms including PC, XBox One and PS4, with PS4 having support for the recently released PlayStation VR Headset.
The story for Biohazard takes place 4 years after the events of Resident Evil 6 and the player will control Ethan as he searches for his missing wife Mia. His search leads him to come into contact with an all new cast of characters, although elements from previous games can be expected throughout game-play.
This is a really nice looking set, I like the fact that the House is dual purpose as a music box and the finger is a USB key. While I don't really have much use for it personally as I do own half a dozen or so larger capacity ones, this is still a useful item in general and not just decorative. I like how well collector's editions such as this tie in the items to the game itself (the house being in the game etc) and not just being "pretty" things like artwork to display.

Gamers' will play as one of 12 classes divided into 3 factions in this Action hack and slash game. Set in medieval ages you will battle hand to hand against AI or other users in multiplayer mode. For Honor's creative director has described it as a "shooter with swords" This looks to be a lot of fun especially if you're looking for a new way to kick your best friend's butt.
This is a collector's edition that while nice looking, I'm actually a little bit disappointed in. The For Honor collector's edition that appears to be available in my region is the one with 3 helms and a stand. Sure it looks nice, but Gamestop has an exclusive collectors edition called the Apollyon Edition which has an amazing looking 14 inch statue, lithograph and a couple of other items. This version is MUCH nicer looking than the one that is likely to be available in my region and I wish that I had the option of the Apollyon Edition instead or in addition.

Nier Automata: Black Box Edition

 Nier Automata is an open world Action game set in the same universe as the original Nier - a Drakengard series spin off. Set amid a war between machines created by otherworldly invaders and what is left of humanity, the story follows the battles of a combat android called YoRHa No. 2, or 2B and her companion 9S.
 Commanded from the Bunker, a base which orbits far above the planet Earth YoRHa must fight the invaders and establish a resistance on Earth in order to drive back the alien machines. Throughout the game there are nods to both Nier, and Drakengard 3 as characters from both are mentioned. Nier: Automata will be available for PS4 on March 7/2017 in North America, following on March 10th in Europe. The release for PC is TBA/2017.
The only thing I really have to complain about regarding the Nier Collector's Edition really isn't anything about the collector's edition itself. The statue looks really nice, the packaging is sleek and the contents are really appealing. My issue is with Square Enix. Square Enix Collector's Editions have to be purchased from their web store. I don't mind purchasing online, but Ido mind the conversion from USD to CAD, the extreme cost of shipping here (often tacking on $30 to $50 USD) and then to top that off, I get hit with import fees which are ANOTHER $40 to $50 (CAD). That makes these VERY expensive and it makes me question if it is really worth the cost. Nier for example costs $189.99. With the current conversion rate that makes it $250 CAD. Add in $40USD S/H ($52CAD) and we are already topping $300CAD. Then if i get hit with import fees we are adding another $40 making this almost $350 in my region without accounting for tax. Is the collector's edition worth $190? Sure. Is it worth $350+? I'm not sure about that.
If places like Square Enix could take into account regional pricing and have it shipped from a local warehouse that would make it a whole lot more appealing for me to buy all of their collector's items rather than picking and choosing only a few.

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild: Master Edition

After Several delays Breath of the Wild is set to release worldwide on March 3rd 2017.

Ghost Recon Wildlands: Fallen Angel Edition

Described as one of the biggest open world games Ubisoft has ever published the Bolivian landscape will include mountains, forests, deserts and salt flats. The concept behind this game is that the Santa Blanca's drug cartel has become the world's largest producer of cocaine and the rise in power has the US Government concerned, resulting in the dispatch of the Ghosts to destroy the cartel. You'll be able to explore these areas and take down the enemy on PC, PS4 and XBox One starting March 7, 2017 worldwide.

It drives me crazy because especially with Europe, I find they get much nicer collector's editions than North America. For Square Enix I have to import from the USA which means something like the Final Fantasy XV Collector's Edition went from being not unreasonably priced to almost $500 after shipping, conversion and Duties & Brokerage fees. $500 for ONE GAME. That is insane and if it hadn't been a gift I most definitely would NOT have shelled out that kind of cash for it. I wish that collector's editions were more standardized across regions or more reasonable to import.

Mass Effect Andromeda: Collector's Edition

This particular collector's edition is more like an add on than a real collector's edition in my opinion. Neither version comes with the actual game. If you want the game, you'll have to shell out the extra and buy it. While each of these "collector's editions" have a version of the Nomad ND1 and a steelbook, they are quite pricey but there is also a budget option available, if you don't care for the steelbook you can get the mini die-cast car for under $20USD. I'm not sure if I'll be getting this one because of that. If I'm shelling out $200 or more, I personally believe that I should be getting the game included. Don't call it a Mass Effect Collector's Edition when it doesn't even have the game itself.

Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood: Collector's Edition
Release Date: June 20th/2017 Publisher: Square Enix Genre: MMORPG
Final Fantasy XIV is a Massively multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Stormblood is the 2nd Expansion to be released and will mark the shut down of FFXIV on PS3. This installment will have adventurers heading to Ala Mhigo to free it from Garlean Occupation after 2 decades.
This expansion will see several features including an increase in level cap to level 70, a revamped battle system, new areas, flying mounts and much more. For the first time players will be able to go swimming in bodies of water and the addition of the Red Mage class as well as others which are as yet unannounced. Final Fantasy XIV is required for play.

I've played many of them and I always love the art, story and gameplay Final Fantasy XI was the first foray into MMORPG's by Square Enix and I put in a ridiculous number of hours. I was stoked for FFXIV and when it initially came out and was a complete disappointment I was pretty upset about it, but once it got the much needed re-creation and became what we know today, It absolutely won me over. I really enjoy playing this and I need to find the time to do so again as there's been so much added on to it and with Stormblood there will be even more. This is another one I have to add to the list of "I wish it was available in my region" as I have to buy it from from the Square Enix Store website which means yet again, conversion, Shipping, and duties. This one I will 100% suck it up and buy because I have the others so I want to keep up the collection.

Disgaea 5: Complete Edition
Release Date: TBA/2017 Publisher: NIS Genre: Tactical RPG
Disgaea 5 is the sixth game in the Disgaea series. Disgaea 5 Complete is a port of the previously released Disgaea 5 title for the Nintendo Switch coming some time in 2017.
The game is centered on the premise of revenge with the player traveling across different Netherworld's in effort to bring the Overlords and their heirs together in order to battle the Void Dark. The game will feature systems not seen in previous entries to the series, including a new special attack called Maougis and the ability to perform fusion skills. New classes as well as ones from previous installments will be seen in the game.
Disgaea 5 Complete is another one that is only available through the publisher's online website leading to extra costs. As nice as this collector's edition looks I'm not sure it comes with enough content that would make it worth the extra expense. I do like the reversible cover and soundtrack though. Why can't companies just make their collector's editions available at retailers!!!???

The game will feature systems not seen in previous entries to the series, including a new special attack called Maougis and the ability to perform fusion skills. New classes as well as ones from previous installments will be seen in the game.
Disgaea 5 Complete is another one that is only available through the publisher's online website leading to extra costs. As nice as this collector's edition looks I'm not sure it comes with enough content that would make it worth the extra expense. I do like the reversible cover and soundtrack though. Why can't companies just make their collector's editions available at retailers!!!???

This Side scrolling platformer will take us back to the original Sonic gameplay and visual styles for Sega Genesis. You will have the option to play as Sonic, Knuckles or Tails as you play through original levels as well as remixed levels from previous entries in the series.
The iconic Green Hill Zone will make a return in this entry to the franchise. Sonic has a new move called the Drop Dash, which allows him to automatically launch into a rolling spin attack after landing from a jump which makes for a fun new strategic play style. If you were a fan of the classics you'll definitely want to pick this up for your choice of platform. It will be available for PC, PS4, XBox One, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch!
I really want this collector's edition for the nostalgia factor here. I can easily see myself hitting the button to hear "Seeeggaaa" every time I walk past it. A very neat little feature. I am also hoping that the collector's card with the download key doesn't have a scratch off area for the key so that I don't risk damaging the card or defacing it in order to use it. I would have preferred they key to come separately on a slip of some sort even if that meant the back of the metallic card were to be left blank.

Built on the Unreal engine, Tekken 7 is the ninth installment in the Tekken Series of games. Focusing on 1v1 battles, Tekken 7 also introduces two new mechanisms to the game. Rage Art allows the player to perform critical attacks which inflict roughly +30% damage depending on the character once their health bar is critical, while simultaneously inactivating the normal attack power increase. Power Crush, allows a player to continue attacing even while being hit by the enemy, though it does not negate the damage dealt by the enemy's attacks. The mechanic works only for absorbing high or mid attacks.

This entry to the series should provide us with some much anticipated answers surrounding the fued between Heihachi, Kazoya and Jin. There are 38 playable characters with 20 defaults and others to be added over time including a new form of Jack from Street Fighter called Jack-7, Akuma who is said to play a major role in the story and my all time personal favorite charager EDDY GORDO. I can't tell you how hyped I am to have him returning to the game. Christie was cool but there is something about Eddy that can't be replicated for me. Maybe its just simple nostalgia.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War is the upcoming sequel to 2014's Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and is developed by Monolith Productions, and will continue the events of Shadow of Mordor with events occuring between JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. This open world single player Action RPG continues the story of the ranger Talion, as he works to use the Rings of Power to amass an army to fight against Sauron and the Nazgul.
Continuing from Shadow of Mordor, we still follow Talion who is still infused with the spirit of the elf lord Celebrimbor. Talion has forged a new Ring of Power, which Celebrimbor believes could be controlled to avoid becoming a Dark Lord and instead become a powerful king.
