Assassin's Creed Movie Review

The Assassin's Creed movie has been the recipient of a lot of negative reviews recently but I have yet to see much positivity surrounding it posted online, yet whenever I talk to someone they, like myself have really enjoyed the experience they were provided at the cinema. I found this to be somewhat unjust and thus I was compelled to provide my own review of the movie.

The Assassin's Creed movie could be summed up in one word (Amazing, Outstanding, Unbelievable, Astonishing, Marvelous, you get my point) BUT using just one word doesn't do this movie justice. Not only does this movie have the essence of the games, it stands very well as it's own entity.  For viewers [and gamers] who have not touched the series of games or know nothing about Assassin's Creed, this is an outstanding introduction to the vast and vibrant world shown to us in the Assassin's Creed video game series. For players of the game, the movie does a very good job of giving us a behind the scenes of sorts that we have not had the privilege of fully visiting in the games before now.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

The massive Abstergo Industries has been shown more in the movie than any game has. I believe the big screen is the perfect place to show this side of the world of Assassin's Creed. We get treated to the answers to many mysteries which surround Abstergo. Answers that are not normally touched upon in the games, due to the plot taking place primarily in that games specific historical period. The historical settings work perfectly in the games to allow us to immerse ourselves in the animus and become the assassin we play as more fully, and I feel the same goes for the movie primarily taking place in Abstergo. I believe that doing the movie the way they have done, is the right direction and has the right balance of past and present for a movie adaptation of Assassin’s Creed.

As a gamer, I was very pleased with the outcome of this movie and how it was handled. As a movie goer, I left the theater wanting more, so much that I saw it a second time with my family and will probably see it a third time in theaters as well as buy the digital (something I don’t do with ANY movie) because I generally purchase blu-ray versions, however in this case I will ALSO buy the blu-ray.

To close this off I just want to thank Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jermey Irons, Justin Kurzel and all the other cast and crew that made my and every other Assassin’s Creed fan’s movie dreams a reality. I can’t wait for the next one.

An Avid Assassin’s Creed & Ubisoft fan,
